The subject is a member of the press corps at an address by Prime Minister Augustinas Voldemaras of Lithuania. From a photo by Dr. Erich Salomon ("king of the indiscreet," 1886-1944). The obvious influence here is Francis Bacon’s screaming Popes. After seeing his 1975 retrospective at The Met, my fascination with him has endured to this day.
